Kid’s Quiet Time Print Out

Growing up in a Christian home I was always encouraged to have a “quiet time” or spend time in my bible. I have encouraged my kids to do the same thing, because we know, this is the only way to truly know God more. BUT as a kid, I was at a loss for what I was supposed to be doing during these “quiet times”. Sometimes I would read a passage of my bible, sometimes I would read a devotional, but I didn’t know what to do beyond that. I had never learned how to really study my Bible and dig deeper into it by myself.

Don’t get me wrong. Simply reading the Bible is GOOD. Reading a devotion that someone wrote can also be GOOD. But what do we do when we read something and we don’t quite understand it? Are we left to have someone else interpret it for us? We don’t have to be. God’s word is for every single person, to know, to understand, and to experience personally. You don’t have to be a great theologian to be able to study God’s word (although, sometimes other people’s gifts are a huge blessing to us).

It wasn’t until I was nearly 30 that I learned how to study God’s word on my own, and I have learned more in the past 3-4 years than I have ever learned before. And that is what I want for my kids. I want them to learn some basic tools, so they can keep building on those for the rest of their lives.

So, I created some printables that I would love to share with you all, so that you can encourage your kids to study and apply God’s Word as well. The kids and I have done this style of devotion time or quiet time together and I think it helps them have a better understanding of who God is, what God says is true, and how that can be part of their life.

I’d encourage you to do this with your kids a few times before sending them off on their own. Help them understand what to do, and with time, they will grow and be able to study God’s Word all on their own.

Just like we still have questions sometimes and need someone to help us, your kids will still have questions occasionally. Don’t shy away from those! If you don’t know the answer, do some research. I like to remind my kids that they can come to me with any questions about what we believe. I may not have the answer that moment, but I am 100% confident that what we believe is the truth, so questions are not something to be afraid of.
